Robert Alexander webcasts

Not too long ago I posted about the upcoming release of Robert Alexander's new book, The Romanov Bride. I also mentioned in passing that he was doing some live webcasts to help celebrate the release. What I was planning to do was attend one, and then come back and talk a little bit about it, but it didn't quite work out as planned. The webcast was due to start at 11am Australian time, and my sister arrived at 10.55am and a delivery man arrived at 11.10am. It therefore meant that basically I was able to send over a question, and kind of listen to the answer, and keep just an ear on the rest of the webcast. What I did hear was very interesting though!

Upcoming Release: The Romanov Bride by Robert Alexander

There are a number of books that I have been waiting for impatiently for the first three months of this year. Most of them have been released, just not in Australia, but finally one of them is coming to a library bookshelf near me!

I have loved looking reading both of Robert Alexander's previous historical novels, The Kitchen Boy and Rasputin's Daughter, and I can't wait to read this one either!

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

You can't go anywhere around blogland without running into a reading challenge. I know that I am seriously in danger of being a reading challenge junkie! I did, however, think that some of our regular readers might be interested in reading about a new challenge.

It's called the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge and it is being hosted by Annie from Reading, Writing and Ranting which is a new blog to me.

It's quite a simple challenge. It runs from 1 April to 1 October and all you have to do is read 6 historical fiction books. I've posted my chosen books on my blog along with the very sexy challenge buttons (History. That's Hot)

You know that means that these are reviews that you are going to see posted here as soon as I have written them as well!

Oprah's new pick

Oprah has chosen Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett as her next book club pick! Like or loathe the book, I am happy that she has chosen a HF book!

POTE is one of those books that I have always meant to read, but never actually got to it yet! I nearly put the sequel on my library request list not long ago, but then I figured that I should read the first one first! I guess I am funny like that!

Of course, there are many books that I have had on my list that I mean to get to some day, but I wanted to ask others the same question. What book have you had on TBR list that you have been meaning to get to one day?

Sad news

There was a note posted over at Historical Fiction Forums this morning to say that Scottish historical novelist Reay Tannahill has died. There don't appear to be any obituaries or anything yet to link to.

Reay Tannahill was the author of many historical novels and non fiction books (you can see the complete list here). I have only read one (The Seventh Son about Richard III reviewed here) but I have had several of her other books on my TBR pile for a long time.

Elizabeth Chadwick's original research method

Elizabeth Chadwick recently posted on her blog a text about a talk she gave with her friend Alison at RNA. It was about how her friend tunes into the past helping her with her character's research. It's a really interesting read and you can find it here.
