The 2015 Historical Ficton Reading Challenge

After hosting the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge for several years now, I have decided that it is time to pass the baton on to someone else to run the challenge! Straight away I thought of a couple of bloggers who I thought would be the perfect host for the challenge, and luckily, the first person I asked said yes, they would love to host!

I hope that you all agree that Passages to the Past is the perfect home for this year's challenge! Amy is so active in the historical fiction community and has great passion and energy for blogging, for working with authors, for supporting others and for historical fiction in general!

The sign up post will be up shortly and I hope that you all support her in the same way you have supported us here.

I have loved hosting the challenge, and constantly been astonished by how many books get read, and how wide the variety of historical fiction there is available. I know that I leave you all in good hands!

2014 Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

We are excited to announce that the we will again be hosting the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge in 2014, and we hope that you are all excited at the prospect of joining in.

The challenge will run in the same way as it has over the last couple of years that we have hosted the challenge. The only thing that has changed is that I have added an additional category for those hard core HF readers who want to challenge themselves to read more than 50 HF novels over the course of the next 12 months.

Here are the details:

Each month, a new post dedicated to the HF Challenge will be created. To participate, you only have to follow the rules:
  • everyone can participate, even those who don't have a blog (you can add your book title and thoughts in the comment section if you wish)
  • add the link(s) of your review(s) including your name and book title to the Mister Linky we’ll be adding to our monthly post (please, do not add your blog link, but the correct address that will guide us directly to your review)
  • any kind of historical fiction is accepted (HF fantasy, HF young adult,...)
During the following 12 months you can choose one of the different reading levels:

20th century reader - 2 books
Victorian reader - 5 books
Renaissance Reader - 10 books
Medieval - 15 books
Ancient History - 25 books
Prehistoric - 50+ books

You can tailor the challenge to suit you in whichever way you like! For example, last year I was only counting books by Australian authors for my own participation in the challenge just to make it a bit harder for myself. I also know of one participant who over the last couple of years has only read historical mysteries as it suits their own reading tastes!

To join the challenge you only need to make a post about it, add your link in Mr Linky below or just leave a link to your blog if you are not yet ready to post about it yet. If you don't have a blog you can just leave a comment for this post saying that you are joining.

The challenge runs from 1 January to 31 December 2014.

We look forward to having you join us in reading and enjoying the best in historical fiction over the next year.

Don't forget to grab one of our buttons to add to your posts. Special thanks to Heather from Capricious Reader who created the buttons for us.

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge: November Reviews

I need to start with an apology this month, and then some news!

Apology first though. I am really, really sorry that I didn't end up putting up the link for the October reviews. I know that I thought about doing it at the end of September but then I had a lot going on and a houseguest for a month and I never actually did more than think about it. I didn't actually realise this until late in October by which time I thought it best just to put the November link up and leave October go!

Thankfully, despite my slackness, there were still lots of links added to the last post so now we have well and truly gone past the 1000 reviews posted mark for this year! Amazing!

I mentioned some news. Although I haven't done anything about organising the challenge for next year, I am intending that the challenge will run again next year, probably in a similar format to this year although there will possibly be a change of location, but I will confirm this and get up a signup post early in December.

If you haven't already signed up for this year's challenge, it's not too late! The sign up post is here.

Just to recap what participants need to know. At the beginning of each month we will put up a post which will have a Mr Linky embedded into it for you to add your link.

Please remember...

  • Add the link(s) of your review(s) including your name and book title to the Mister Linky we’ll be adding to our monthly post (please, do not add your blog link, but the correct address that will guide us directly to your review). A direct link to your Goodreads review is also acceptable
  • any kind of historical fiction is accepted (fantasy, young adult, graphic novels...)
  • if you have time, have a look some of the other links that are present. You never know when you will discover new blogs or books!
Please leave your links for your September reviews in Mr. Linky below or if you don't have a blog, in the comments below

*Note: if you missed posting your links last month, please always post "late" links in the current month's Mr. Linky. For example, if you forgot to post a link in October, please post it on the Mr. Linky in this post.
