Marg's intro

I have always loved reading Historical Fiction. In High School I read through the school's entire collection of Jean Plaidy books in a year. I have no idea which books I did or didn't read but my love of anything historical was well and truly established by that time.

These days I read relatively widely across genres - a little bit of fantasy, a fair amount of general fiction, mystery and romance, and a lot of historical fiction. Luckily I have a long commute so that I have plenty of reading time every day but it still isn't enough really! It's an old cliche, but the saying "So many books, so little time" is definitely one that applies to me.

I do like to read about a variety of eras in Historical Fiction, but I do have to admit to being quite partial to reading books set in the medieval era - all those knights, and crusaders, and strong characters like Eleanor of Aquitaine - can't get enough of them! I also do love to read books about Russia, and really enjoy a good story set against a war, no matter which war. To be honest I am not really all that fussy at all!

My favourite historical fiction authors include Diana Norman, Sara Donati, Diana Gabaldon, Sharon Penman and Paullina Simons. I'm sure I am going to come back in while and realise that I should have mentioned about five more authors, but I will leave it at that for now.

I have been blogging now for just over 18 months over at Reading Adventures, and I am so addicted to it! Blogging about the books that I read has become such a part of my reading experience that a book isn't finished until I add it to my various Excel spreadsheets (yes, I am a listmaker!), and at the very least saving the post in draft, even if I don't get around to actually writing the review for a while afterwards!

What else....I am a single mum, I live in Melbourne, Australia, and I work full time for a major church based charity. I have lived in a couple of other cities in Australia, and spent 5 years living in a couple of different places in the UK.

  1. Marg, I love excel spreadsheets! And I agree blogging about books has changed how I read them, mostly for the good. :)

I tagged you over at Bodice Ripper Reviews by the way.
