Cover Story: Avalon

When your story is set in the 10th century and features some of the most famous names in history, I guess that the covers will reflect the two aspects seen here - either the romance, or the warrior aspects.

Once again, no matter how gorgeous the most recent releases covers are they again feel a little bit out of place amongst the others.

I am a little fascinated by the title of the French version. To my untrained eyes it looks like the Sister of the Vikings, but I could be totally off there! That alone makes me want to wonder how that could possibly fit in with the story of the characters.

Which ones are your favourites?

  1. The one I own is #3. I could swear I've seen #5 on another book! I'm not sure which one I like best. I agree that the recent releases don't look like they fit in. The French title is "daughter of the Viking" which does describe Merewyn, but I don't care for it as a title. Makes it sound more lusty and action-oriented than it is.

  2. I own #1 and #3, I think. Strangely, this is the only (I think!) book of hers I've never read. I think I resist getting sucked into the Arthurian world for fear I would never return...

  3. Fille in French is Girl or Daughter--so "The Viking's Girl/Daughter." Sarah's explanation makes sense--Viking's Girl sounds even lustier than Viking's Daughter!

#6 cracks me up--it's pretty, don't get me wrong, but the way the title bar covers the naughty bit is hilarious!

I really like the abstract blues of cover #1.

  4. For me, it's number 5. Number 6 is good too, but the time period seems not to be quite right.

  5. I'm smitten with #6...naughty or no!

  6. I like the earlier covers - 5 & 6 give the wrong impression of both the story and the time period.

  7. I like #6 as well. #5 was used in some of the promos for Maxwell's O Juliet, so that might be where Sarah has seen it before.

  8. I have #6 on my shelf and of the ones pictured I like it the best :)

  9. Yes, Misfit, that's where I've seen it before. It's the step-back cover.
