Where and when are you reading?
Nanette: I'm in 14th century England, reading Anya Seton's Katherine.
Ana: I'm in Lisbon alternating between the WWII period and the 1990s in Robert Wilson's A Small Death in Lisbon
Marg: I am also in 14th century England with a time travelling hsitorian from the future. I have just finished The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm enjoying it. There's some mention of religion and Anne seems to respect the sanctity of marriage but it's not preachy, which is my greatest problem with christian fiction.
DeleteI am in the Arms of Nemesis [so to speak!] following Steven Saylor's sleuth Gordianus the finder in the Bay of Naples in 72BC at the time of the revolting Spartacus.[Well Marcus Crassus would have described him thus...]

DeleteMarg, how did you like it? I really loved it overall, though I thought the first 50 pages were kind of a hot mess.

Julie, I liked it, but liked To Say Nothing of the Dog better. I found this one a bit frantic at times.

DeleteI've also just finished The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. I ended up enjoying it, but thought the 'twists' were a LONG TIME coming. I'm actually glad I started with Willis' "To Say Nothing of the Dog" as I thought that one set up the whole premise of time travel much better - I'm certainly looking forward to reading the connected books set in WWII!
ReplyDeleteLana, I liked To Say Nothing of the Dog more than I liked The Doomsday Book. I have already pulled Black Out off the shelf with the intention of reading it soonish!
