So, I thought this week we could have a bit of open discussion.
- Have you read Pride and Prejudice?
- Who is your favourite character?
- Are you a Jane Austen fan?
- If you could ask Jane Austen one question what would it be?
Personally I love the classics, and I do not read then enough. I recently have revisited Pride and Prejudice as it is set around the time frame of one of my ancestors that I have been researching and I suspect that the panic Mrs Bennett feels about her daughters marrying was common at the time. My own ancestor was one of 10 children, of which 9 were girls!
What question would I have liked to have asked? Probably which people were the characters based upon - own parents perhaps?

There are so many questions I would want to ask Jane. The first, like you, I want to know who the characters in her novels were based on. I picture Jane being most like Lizzy Bennet, so I would ask which of the characters is most like herself. Third, I would want to talk about her success/following that she has now. What are her feelings about that.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a Jane Austen fan, and while I love Pride & Prejudice my favourite of Austen's novels is Persuasion. My favourite Austen character is Anne Elliot. If I could ask one question I would want to know which of Austen's heroines she most identified with. If I could ask another question I'd want to know which of her heroes is her favourite.

ReplyDeleteHello Julie. I too am an ardent fan with Pride and Prejudice being my all time favourite. I would love to ask her lots of questions and often have wondered if she secretly saw herself in her character Elizabeth Bennet. Reading about Jane as a person I feel she was more forward thinking than most young women of her time. My one question though would be who she built her character of Mr Darcy upon? A secret love perhaps or an imaginary type of man whom she would have been attracted to in real life? Who is to say. I love the Colin Firth adaptation of the novel and two of my favourite scenes were when Darcy climbed out of that water and the other was when we saw him striding down the long corridor of his home. I'm in my seventies but I'm such a romantic.
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen but Pride and Prejudice is not my favorite of her novels. My favorite is Persuasion and, of course, Captain Wentworth is my favorite character. But I love Anne as well. I've never been a huge fan of Mr. Darcy. I never got the attraction. If I could ask Miss Austen a question... Who was the love of her life and which of her heroes did he take after?
ReplyDeleteOHHH have I read P&P so many times I cannot count I love love Jane, I have read everything from Jane Austen with exception to Lady Susan but I just bought that and plan on reading soon. My favorite character happens to be Jane, Elizabeth's sister because she is most like me! If I could ask Jane a question it would be, what is her favorite Jane Austen inspired novel? And would she be my best friend? LOL I am a HUGE Jane Austen fan I wear her around my neck everyday to remind me of her in a pendant. My fav quote " I don't like people to be so argeeable saves me the trouble of liking them."
ReplyDeleteI love Jane Austen, and P&P is my favorite book in all the world. Mr. Darcy is my favorite character in that book (predictable, I know). One question I'd love to ask Austen is which film adaptation of her work is her favorite. Personally, I am really loving the Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube!
