Anya Seton's Books Giveaway

To celebrate this year's HT Season we are giving away three books by Anya Seton. Leave a comment with your email address below to enter, the winner will be announced on June 29. Contest is open to whereever The Book Depository delivers!

This fiercely beautiful novel tells the true story of Charles Radcliff, a Catholic nobleman who joined the short-lived Jacobite rebellion of 1715, and of his daughter, Jenny, by a secret marriage. Set in the wilds of Northumbria, teeming London, and colonial Virginia - where Jenny eventually settled on the estate of the famous William Byrd of Westover - Jenny's story reveals one young woman's loyalty, passion, and courage as she struggles between living in the Old World and the New.

Celia de Bohun meets Stephen Marsdon. He agrees to be her teacher and as she grows older, they fall in love. History seems poised to repeat itself. Not long after the marriage of Richard Marsdon and his American wife Celia, something seems to go wrong when Celia is forced to look deep into the past that she has a chance to prevent another tragedy.

First published in 1946, The Turquoise was the great historical novelist Anya Seton’s third novel and sold close to a million copies. It is the story of a beautiful, gifted woman who leaves the magic mountains of her native New Mexico for the piratical, opulent, gaslit New York of the 1870s—only to end her search for happiness back in the high, thin air of Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Cameron, named for the place of her birth, was the child of a Spanish mother and a Scotch father and inherited from both a high degree of psychic perceptivity. Natanay, an American Indian, saw this and gave the little orphan a turquoise amulet as a keepsake; this turquoise, the Indian symbol of the spirit, dominates her life.

For Santa Fe Cameron, life is made up of violent contrasts: the rough wagon of the gay young Irish medicine vendor who brings her East and the scented hansom cabs and carriages waiting before her own Fifth Avenue mansion; the glittering world of the Astors and a dreary cell in the Tombs. All the color, excitement, and rich period detail which distinguish Anya Seton’s novels are here, together with one of her most unusual heroines.
Stay tuned tomorrow for another exciting giveaway!

  35. I would love to win these books so please count me in! Katherine was one of my mother's favourite novels and I still have the 1956 edition which I also read when young. A great way to absorb the history of the period and find out about the royal line of England. Sadly I don't have any of Anya Seton's other novels but also remember reading Foxfire. An author to read and re-read.

  36. I love love *love* Anya Seton!! Avalon might be my favorite. Anyway, I own none of these, so I'd love to be entered in the drawing!

  39. I love Anya Seton's novel. I so glad they're being reissued in shiny, brand new covers. Most of them were impossible to find in mint condition.

Anya Seton sparked my love of historical fiction with "Devil Water", in Reader's Digest form. I am trying to collect all the reiussed novels when finance permits.

I found "Katherine" in the gift shop of Westminister Abbey. She is one of those authors who grab you by the scruff and yank you back centuries!
